Education and Awareness
The Freedom Strategy

Freedom, Restoration, Justice

Engage Together®

The Freedom Strategy Model by Engage Together highlights five critical areas communities must address simultaneously to protect vulnerable populations. Every community member has a role to play—especially in Prevention and Identification—by learning the signs, staying informed, and taking action when something doesn’t feel right. When individuals are equipped with reliable information and the confidence to respond, communities become stronger, safer, and better prepared to disrupt exploitation.

EdenSpring is committed to all 5 pillars of the strategy. We focus primarily on Restoration through the EdenSpring restorative care home while actively partnering in the remaining 4 critical areas.

No one can do this work alone. We bridge service gaps by collaborating with local, regional and national partners to build a powerful support network, to help every survivor receive the comprehensive care they deserve.

Awareness and Education

See the Unseen: How Awareness Ends Trafficking

Modern slavery hides in plain sight. The most effective tool a trafficker has to operate unhindered is our collective ignorance. When we don't know what to look for, especially in our own communities, traffickers can operate with impunity. By educating yourself, you remove their greatest advantage: invisibility.

Awareness to Action

Be Informed. Make a Difference.

Here is why education plays a vital role in the anti-trafficking movement:

You Become an Informed "Sensor"

Trafficking survivors often report that they interacted with dozens of people while being exploited, but no one noticed something was wrong.

Awareness of vulnerability factors particular to your community develops a vigilant eye for the "pressure points" traffickers exploit. Additionally, learning subtle signs of manipulation, coercion, and control help you see what others miss.

You Protect Your Inner Circle

Traffickers are master manipulators who target vulnerabilities. By understanding grooming tactics, including those employed online, you can protect the children, students, and vulnerable adults in your own community.

You Combat Dangerous Myths

Sensationalized stories often distract from the truth. Education replaces sensationalized stories and movie myths with an informed understanding of the realities of trafficking, cultivating improved community awareness, survivor support, and policy advocacy.

Awareness is the spark that turns a passive bystander into a vigilant advocate.

Education isn't just about gathering facts; it's about changing how you see and experience the world. When a community is "trafficking-informed," it creates a hostile environment for exploiters. You join the chorus of vigilant eyes and ears that help protect vulnerable people in your community.

Increasing Awareness

Educational Resources

At EdenSpring, we believe that effective human trafficking prevention strategies and informed advocacy are rooted in deep understanding.

To help you join us in this mission, we invite you to explore free online training offered by our trusted partner organizations. These educational resources provide vital insights into the complexities of human trafficking, equipping you with the knowledge to recognize the signs and respond with the empathy and expertise survivors deserve.

We also encourage you to listen to the stories of survivors, provided by organizations that practice ethical storytelling. When we listen to stories of survivors, we honor their lived experiences and gain the essential perspective needed to dismantle systems of exploitation.

Policy & Advocacy

Legislative Framework and Support Services

The fight against sex trafficking requires not only awareness and direct services to support survivors, but also robust legislative frameworks to support and protect victims while also holding traffickers accountable. Federal laws like the Trafficking Victims Protection Act provide a foundation for that work, but state-level implementation varies dramatically state by state.

EdenSpring is committed to working with legislators, law enforcement, and community organizations to address vulnerability factors, strengthen support and protections for survivors, close the gaps that traffickers exploit, and bring traffickers to justice.

EdenSpring leverages the expertise of national organizations like Shared Hope to seek guidance and learn best practices of recommended legislative frameworks that have been adopted in other states.

Shared Hope
West Virginia Report Card

West Virginia has historically received low marks on the Shared Hope International annual report card for its state Child and Youth Sex trafficking laws but it doesn't have to remain that way. The people of West Virginia can advocate for change, raise the overall grade, and make West Virginia a safer more supportive environment for survivors.
