How You Can Make a Difference

Here are some ways you can take action in your community to help resist human trafficking:

Learn

Educate yourself on the common indicators of human trafficking. Take a course from one of our trusted partners listed on our education & awareness page. Become aware of the vulnerability factors in your community that traffickers might exploit.

Volunteer

Offer your time or professional skills—like administrative help or legal services—to local nonprofits that support survivors. EdenSpring will be posting volunteer opportunities soon! Get involved with a local organization that increases protective factors for vulnerable populations in your community, i.e. – mentor a youth through a reputable organization or serve at your local domestic violence shelter.

Donate

Provide financial support to reputable organizations to fund safe housing, medical care, and legal assistance for survivors. Every bit counts! Even small fundraisers in your community can significantly impact an organization's ability to provide direct services to survivors.

Share

Help raise awareness in your own community by talking with friends and family about what you are learning from reputable sources. People trust the people they know. Invite others to join you on your learning journey and encourage them to get involved. Post information on social media from reliable sources.

Advocate

Familiarize yourself with legislative proposals that strengthen protections and supports for victims of trafficking and increases accountability for traffickers. Contact your local and state officials to urge them to support such legislation.

Collaborate

Join the West Virginia Human Trafficking Task Force or your local task force to help build a unified front between key community partners such as schools, healthcare providers, social services, and law enforcement. Building these partnerships ensures that your community has a stronger safety net to prevent, identify, and intervene in suspicious activities.

Collaborate locally →
Report Suspicious Activity If you suspect someone is a victim, do not attempt to intervene yourself. Call 911 for active emergencies. Report suspicious activity by calling the National Human Trafficking Hotline or filing a report with the WV Fusion Center.
