About the Name

Eden

In the Bible, the Book of Genesis describes the Garden of Eden as a paradise, a place of beauty and bounty that existed before sin and the resulting pain. People lived in right relationship with God and others; human traffickers and sexual predators did not yet stalk the earth.

EdenSpring isn’t quite paradise, but it is a place of beauty and bounty. And it is a haven of safety, a place where women are sheltered from those who would exploit them.

Spring as a Season

Spring brings new life. At EdenSpring, we see spotted fawns grazing with their mothers, hatchling barn swallows peering over nest edges, and cows calling their calves to nurse.

In the Bible, the Book of Ecclesiastes teaches that there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the sun. There is a time to hate and a time to love; a time to kill and a time to heal; a time to tear down and a time to build.

We pray that at EdenSpring, survivors will experience a season of love, healing, and the building of a new life.

Springs of Water for the Weary

Isaiah 49:10 “They will neither hunger nor thirst, nor will the desert heat or the sun beat down on them. He who has compassion on them will guide them, and lead them beside springs of water.”

EdenSpring is a place where both literal and metaphorical springs abound, a place where weary women can come to be refreshed.

The Spring of Water that Provides Eternal Life

In John 4:14, Jesus said, “Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

It is our hope that women at EdenSpring will experience the mercy and love of Jesus Christ, and accept His offer of eternal life.

The Place

EdenSpring is nestled in the mountains of West Virginia, where natural beauty abounds. It is a place where life is abundant, and each season brings new delights.

Spring

The ice covering the creek thaws as downy chicks snuggle under their mother’s wings and young calves frolic in the fields. Soon, the bluebells will emerge and the garden will be planted. When the creek waters run high, a tubing adventure is irresistible.

Summer

The deer emerge from the woods at twilight to graze and fireflies light the darkening sky. Wildflowers blanket the fields and vegetables grow heavy in the garden. Golden honey is harvested from bee hives and fresh eggs are plucked from nesting boxes. The evening mist rolling down from the neighboring ridges brings welcome relief from the heat of the day.

Fall

By day, a blaze of color paints the trees in hues of crimson, tangerine and gold. By night, geese wing their way across the moonlit sky. Ripened pumpkins are harvested for pies, while newly plucked gourds grace the mantle.

Winter

The cows are nurtured as they grow heavy with their spring calves. Walks through snowy woods are followed by hot chocolate and board games. Cozy evenings by the fire provide time for planning the spring garden.

It is a good place to walk the road to joy.
